Hi all,

Went out with a friend to a couple of new farms on the edge of the Forest of Dean.  What was immediately obvious was the amount of soil contamination with various sizes of aluminium pieces that we kept picking up.  It was literaly 2 or 3 pieces per swing  Cry  We soon gave up as our ears were taking a bashing and went to another field, this time nearer to the River Severn where we encountered the same problem yet again!

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced similar sites and why is there so much metal in the ground on this farm Sad

green waste , had 3 big fields the same , every swing a signal , bits of ali , chopped up screws nuts bolts , the whole nine yards , i think a while back farmers used to use recycled material for animal bedding or stables cowsheds etc the muck was then spread over fields along with the poo and all the metal bits , the fields are ruined for detecting forever im afraid

It must of been bloody uncomfortable for the cows to sleep on ali and bolts  Wink  It is a real shame for this site held huge promise, according to google earth  Cheesy

 Angry had a farm like that green waste , after 10 minutes of detecting  went home its a shame but what can you do , sabotage , you detect on a roman site and what you find ikea goodies Roll Eyes

yip my cousins 300 acre farm would have been a lifetimes worth of detecting if it was'nt for the green waste. door furiture ,staples and brass fittings all over

What I did find on this farm was a fossil called a 'Devils toenail' 340 million years old Gastropod.   Grin  Who needs metal eh?
