 Roll Eyes i was out today on a new farm had a cracking signal dug down about 6ins and couldnt see anything got the garrett pin pointer out and the only thing i had a signel from was a black item what looked like coal ? done a air test nothing ? go,s nuts with the garrett pp tho.
come home and had to crack it open to see if anything is inside and thats what is also strange the inside looks like coal thats been burned but still as hard and its very light ?

maybe nothing but i got to know lol ( im now to all this by the way lol )  Roll Eyes and my camera wont focus on the bloody thing to show you

Well whatever gave you the signal is still there lol. What you found is as you suspected...coke. it will register a signal on most single frequency machines and that includes your pinpointer.
But it will rarely register on your Explorer, did you double check your hole?

once you dig a hole the signal can sometimes be hard to locate especially if its a small item , it may have fallen out of clod or even be stuck to your shovel , it happens , in compacted ground like old pasture i have had good signals vanish , if this happens go back into the hole with the shovel and carefully dig a bit more out and remove loose earth then recheck , and check all around the hole , whatever was there will still be there somewhere just take your time

..and its not the first time i've had such a small item attach itself to the mud on the spade! 

so don't forget to check that as well!
