Hi Peter,

In an extraordinary turn of events, the hammie tap has been turned off and a slow trickle of regular finds is starting to re-emerge up this neck of the woods  Grin

In amongst the bullets, nails, foil, muskies, tombacs and spindle whorls this weekend, was this wee little shield thing about an inch heigh but with the image of a lion/dragon/griffin rampant embossed and gilded. it is almost as though it was meant as some form of seal type matrix except that there is no inscription.

I would appreciate your views as to whether it is just a plain old heraldic mount or do you think it may have had another purpose. I also can't make out what it is on the flatter side, any ideas???

Thanks,
