Always a good day Al regardless of finds!!!!

It was a 08:15 meet up with exception of the late ones!!! we headed down to some  new pasture, dominating the ground is a 13th century church with parts dated to the 12th century and the added bonus of plenty of paths leading to it, led to some nice finds by Al and Mario!!.The history of the area begins mainly in Medieval times with only a few bits of Roman found in the area (that we know of!!) unfortunatley no hammies aswell!!! All our finds were mainly 17th century onwards though.

As always the gas cooker was out and we had butties galore thanks to a team effort, although we only managed one brew as my generator ran out of fuel!! we headed back out after lunch for another few hours needless to say the morning was more productive. I did manage to dig a nice buckle which made my day!!!

Thanks to Al,Mario,Bob and Cherry oh and my little man for dating Bob and Cherry to the early 1900's, and asking Al if his gilfriend is fit !!!!! lmao hes only 8!!!

Rookypair reporting in, we had a superb day out with Nick, Deadlock, Gotonehammy and  not forgetting the wee man!
The weather was not as bad as feared, we left just as the really wet stuff started.  Our finds probably belong straight in the junk box but am gonna try and post pictures before their fate awaits them!!  We would also like to say we are now the proud owners of some chef phones and WOW the difference and comfort is uncomparable to what we were using b4.  It was a great day with really good company and a good laugh was had by all - the smell of bacon wafting though the village must've got some tastebuds dancing - thanks again Nick for providing your mobile meals on wheels!
Thoughtly enjoyed ourselves

Nice going both and I'm glad you liked the headphones. The item top left in the 3rd pic is a foot patten and please don't scrap that one as it's the best preserved one that I've seen and I've found quite a few over the years.
Use some rust eater on it if you can (phosphoric acid) and that should stabilise it Wink

OMG Chef that's great? we think.  Could you explain to a couple of rookies what a foot thingy is or was and from what sort of age would it be?
Many thanks

Basically they were the forerunner of Wellingtons, like little stilts to raise you out of the mud and ummm? urr? well you know that stuff they used to throw into the street Grin
here's a potted history for you

Thanks for that little history lesson Geoff, how interesting, so simple and yet so sensible.  I bet they made quite a noise, a bit like hob nailed boots!  Well done Geoff you save him from the scrap bucket!
Cheers
