repair a sef coil

Hi does anybody know where i can get my sef coil for Minelab Explorer 2 repaired please it keeps knocking the machine off every time i switch it on thanks

if its under warranty send it back , dont know of anyone who repaires them or even if they can be

Hi Ian, A weird one, I presume you tried other coils to ensure it is the SEF? As Mike has said they are not really repairable unless the problem was in the Din plug

Hi Chef ,i plugged it in to another machine and it does the same thing ,its where the cable goes into the coil if you wiggle it about it brings it on but as soon as you move the machine it knocks it off.

will it tighten down , perhaps water got in there , try putting it somewhere warm to dry off for a few days , worth a try maybe , failing that sell it on ebay as faulty , someone will buy it , failing that bin it

Well that is the place that they go wrong, strange though on a Explorer as it doesn't get much movement. It does sound as if it's shorting out and I'm afraid the bin is the usual destination

Probably not the same fault but i had a problem with my 15 x 12" S.E.F. Coil which started falseing all over the place on a
trip to the beach...took off coil cover and found very minute holes in base of the coil looked like bubbles had formed when
being cast and therefore allowing ingress of sea water.
I washed out area with distilled water and put in airing cupboard upside down for 3 days.
I then sealed the base with a clear epoxy resin left to dry then re- attached the coil cover and sealed that with another coat of resin.
Since then not a jot of falseing and can get sens back up to maximum without any trouble at all.
So its all sealed up now for the life of the coil and working superbly.
So thats my experience hope it might be of some help to you....Good luck to you and H.H. PaulB.

while on the subject of a broken explorer can any one tell me if you can get any thing to stop stem wobble the lower stem is loose because the lever does not tighten it when pressed thanks again

just give Laura a ring at Detecnicks, they are only cheap and easy to change.
