After weeks of unreliable weather the day of the Pontypridd rally dawned bright and sunny. The location of the rally was on the side of a mountain overlooking Pontypridd and afforded spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

Unfortunately the location seemed to play havoc with my satnav and I spent the best part of an hour trying to find the farm. This meant that most of the members who were coming actually arrived before I did. Since I was responsible for putting up the signs, some people experienced a little difficulty due to the lack of directions near to the location. Apologies for this.

After the usual pep talk and directions members dispersed over the land to start searching. In addition to whatever was naturally buried on the farm there was a scattering of tokens on one of the fields as we decided to hold a token hunt.

Finds was slow to appear during the morning although a smattering of Victorian and later coinage started to come up. One of the first interesting finds to appear was a jeton. I did not manage to get a picture of this so perhaps the person who found it could upload a picture.

As the day wore on some more interesting finds started to pop up. Stampy found what looks to me like a coin weight and Cardiffian came up with an interesting looking mount.

Silver started to make its appearance in the form of a miniature sporting trophy or prize and an interesting tiny rectangular silver object with engraving found by Seasider that, according to some members, is a bridesmaids gift.

Duggypuggy found a blank hammered that had been counter stamped perhaps someone could give us an idea what the markings on the coin mean?

The nicest coin found, in my opinion, came up at the end of the day and was a really nice William III sixpence in really good condition found by Zeus.

Thanks to Mike the fob who found this farm for us. We greatly appreciate this. Rally land seems particularly hard to find at the moment. Whilst we may have rallies that produce more hammered coins we’ll never have one at a more picturesque location.

Well done all.

I don't think the square thing in the first picture is a coin weight - the wording at the bottom appears to include 'SOC. LTD'. At first I thought it said 'SHEEP SOC', but not sure now.

The blank silver disc with the stamped lettering is probably a William III shilling or sixpence. The stamping might indicate a silversmith's trial or initials for a love token.

The toy cannon is nice!
