Xp Dues on the beach

Took the missus dues out on the beach yesterday and it performed really well ,then again i only needed to dig a few inches to reach the clay base . The problem I have is the design of the shaft and grains of sand don't mix . Even leaving it extended and washing it thoroughly doesn't help . You can see the scratches on the shaft already after trying to fold it down . Can you imagine what it would look like after a few trips . Surely the shaft doesn't have to be so precise . A slightly looser stem would go some way to help with cleaning . Does anyone have any ideas how to overcome this ? Thanks .

dont take it to the beach 

any joint ,coupling etc on tectors ,fishing rods etc need to be very tight otherwise you get the 2 parts slopping about which would wear them out 10 times faster

You could put a velcro sleeve over the lower stem, a lot of climbing shops sell them as rope protectors and cost in the region of a tenner

It's a detector..........not a best suit for special occasions! 


The upper shaft will turn a shade of purple on exposure to sunlight if you use it regularly enough, and are not an armchair detectorist! 

If you want it prestine then leave it in the box.............. or put the coil on a straight stem.

Don't fold it down I have a Velcro sleeves to cover it also stops discoloration to the shaft . I cut up an old padded detector bag spot on

Thanks for all the suggestions , I'll have to use some sort of Velcro sleeve in future .
