Great find Ceri.

I'm a beginner on ID'ing Norman coinage, but it does look to me like William I and the reverse legend appears to be GOD ON ÐEOTFORD.

This would be Thetford mint and the moneyer Goda.

One for Ed Besly to take a look at I think!

Incidentally, the chatelaine could be much later, see here:

I think that UKDFD assumption is slightly tenuous and a bit sweeping. The 18th-19th version is silver and couldn't it be a Victorian reproduction as they did like everything from the medieval/classical world in their fashions?

Below is a silver Fibula, the style of which both PAS and UKDFD have listed as being Roman but Chef believes they are modern as the one below can be bought in Taunton museum for £20  Cheesy

Sorry for the sarcasm but you understand what I'm getting at Wink

Well Pipster emailed me a couple of shots this morning just to get an id on some of his finds, well....................Sorry Ceri you have been knocked into second place lol
One of his finds is a Saxon Chatelaine and a real cracker at that, difficult to date for certain and could be anywhere in the Saxon period but for my money dates between the 8th and 11th centuries. Very well done Phil Wink

This is the PAS record to a similar one;
