Lovely find Jamie!! If I'm not mistaken, and remember rightly, two of these have appeared on this forum with the same inscription, how weird, except that the other two I think were gold, where yours is silver with gold gilt. Would be funny if yours was found in a similar area to the other two. Great find once again!!

Nice ring; looks 17th C to me so will probably qualify as treasure.  Well found.

Silver Gilt, circa 18th C. These very short love poems and rhymed inscriptions can be found engraved on antique posy rings (also 'posie' or 'posey rings'). They repesent deep intimate feelings of people who have long since perished. Such rings were given on various occasions, but as one can clearly see, mostly as tokens of engagement or as wedding rings. Not many of them can be considered true gems of English literature, but the power of these short love poems (if any) is in their romantic sincerity and old time charm.
Nice find !  Wink

Thats a beauty - quality find!

As John mentioned that's the third baring the same inscription. Love the style of the writing. I am going for 1700's

Great post - well done

These things are notoriously hard to date as the only real datable element is the style of writing on the inscription. I'm going to go for a late 17th c to early 18th c date range, although I suspect that it could very well be earlier than that. A once in a lifetime find-well done.  Shocked

As there's a good chance of it being deemed 'treasure', make sure you forward the information to your local FLO asap. [i think you have 14 days from the date of the find]

nice find, well done.

Whats even more intriguing are the continuous lines inside the ring. Wonder if it was made from something else and hammered into a ring.
Very nice find and unusual.

Given the writing and more importantly spelling I would date it closer to 1800. Get it recorded but I guarantee it won't be claimed as treasure. Don't get worried about the 14 day rule, if you don't think you can do it in 14 days due to work etc just phone and report it and get in when you can, it took me 12 weeks last year to hand one in Cheesy
