Hi all, I found this recently but not sure whether it is a button or a brooch, due to the fact that I can not work out what the fixing on the reverse would have been, the size is 23mm x 7mm, thanks for your help.

Thanks nfl, I forgot to mention that there is a hole in the reverse, so that may give the impression that there was a loop, the marks on the back make me think that it could have been fixed to something more substantial.

It's very pretty Geoff. Given the size I'd say 'button'.  23mm isn't very big for a brooch but it's about right fr a button.

If its hollow, Its most likely a victorian era button. If its solid with a hole in the back there is a possibility its a mount of some sort. Looks silver.

Get it checked by an FLO if I were you.
