Queen Ann Coins

Thought i would put this post up of Queen Ann,as there never seem to be many Ann coins found............
Queen Anne reigned from March 1702 to August 1714. Anne’s death ended the Stuart dynasty as she had no surviving children. Born on February 6th 1665, her father was James II and her older sister, Mary, had reigned as Mary II along with William III after the 1688 Revolution.

No photo I am afraid but in 2006 my Dad found a 1706 Queen Anne shilling - Edinburgh mint - on a cousin's farm in Herefordshire.  It was in a good condition and discovered in a field where sheep had been held before being taken to market in the nearby town the next day.

The E below the Queen's bust records that the coin was struck at the Edinburgh mint. The legend reads as a single title from obverse to reverse and translates "Anne by the Grace of God Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland". A shilling is a 12 pence coin.

I found this about a month into detecting which around october last year, 1707 Shilling also from the Edinburgh Mint.

I presume it has been turned into a love token.

Well this is my poor excuse for an entry and the closest I've ever got to a sniff of a silver coin of Ann. A counterfeit shilling.

That's mad, I did not realise that started counterfeiting so early, I thought it started with George III.

I would be happy with a find like that for sure.

No far from it, people have been counterfeiting coins as long as there have been coins.
This is one of the many forged hammies I've had over the years, this one is a counterfeit groat of Henry IV.

My only Queen Anne coin in 20 years detecting is a crown ,a five shilling coin. Will try and put it up next week if this thread is continuing.
