Promised a friend that I would post a piccy here as I have no idea what it is, it looks quite decorative though...

Any ideas anyone ?

I havent really got a better piccy and havent seen it in reality yet, I will try and get some better photos when I see it...  Is that a ship I can see on it with waves in the background ?  I dunno...  Anybody with better ideas please post ...

Is it made of leather, it looks like stitching around the edge.  If it is leather I guess it's off a harness.

Excellent id Nobby, I've just been looking at musket escutcheons on Google Images and though none are identical the mounting holes are in the same places and the shape is basically the same, so I think your spot on.
