Think this is the most up to date one Paul, looks well made too! Plus it's at your favourite suppliers.

Not cheap but I got one for Christmas and I have been using it regularly. Shows exactly where the object is and how close (by vibration rate). Great for when the ground is stony and you have to dig carefully - saves a lot of unnecessary digging and possible damage. Wouldn't be without it now!

This is the one I use it beats the pants off the Garret! This model shown here will get a reading on a U.S. dime at 6 inches! The Garret about 3 inches.

The pistol probe is a very handy piece of kit being a metal detector in it,s own right for example searching the crevices in rocks inland and on the sea coast and other awkward to get at places Roll Eyes Roll Eyes mole

The pistol is a FULL POWER pulse detector. The circuits in it are the same ones used in a full size metal detector and just as powerful.  You can adjust the sensitivity up or down as your needs change. You dont have to dig the tip in the dirt ether this saves any damage from happening to the probe itself. It is by far the most useful probe on the market today!. You can also adjust the frequency of this unit so it wont interfere with your detector.

Hi Yankee,
Looks a fantastic machine, How Much !! It would be great in rocks on the beach, I have always used PI's for beach detecting for the deepest finds.

I use the Garrett probe, brilliant bit of kit. No tuning, no messing, just press the on button and away you go. Smiley

My probe is currently in bits on my desk as I took it apart to see how it works - as you do. As members were interested in a DIY probe they could make themselves I thought I'd see if I could construct one.

My bought probe has a very simple circuit based around a single chip called a proximity detector. It shouldn't be hard to create my own circuit to match or exceed the performance of the commercial probes. I'm also experimenting with a probe circuit based upon a PIC microprocessor.

Hopefully I'll be able to upload a circuit diagram and/or even a DetectingWales.com probe kit at some stage in the near future.
