I thought that this was a steelyard weight but I  have been unable to find a rectangular steelyard weight anywhere on the net and wondered what others made of this find I made today.? It weighs 337gms or 11&3/4 oz

Looks OK to me Peanut. This one is only half the size of yours but you can see the similarities;

ESS-C26BD5" style="float:right;<acronym title="The Portable Antiquities Scheme">PAS</acronym> record number: ESS-C26BD5

Object type: Weight

Broadperiod: Roman

thanks Geoff thats almost identical.
If its possibly Roman it will be the second Roman find on this field which is promising. All I've found for the past 4x weeks are hundreds of buttons ? I reckon its where all the locals took their girls for a bit of necking. They must have gone home with their clothes falling off lol Roll Eyes

thanks Wayno.  I wonder how many of these have been thrown in the junk bin or the nearest hedge over the years ? I think I would have worked out that it was a weight but until I saw one similar I just assumed that it was fairly modern . I'm quite chuffed to find it but its so bluddy heavy and big i'm at a loss what to do with it , it won't fit in a coin bag lol  Grin
