Deputy Sheriff's badge - World War II era . . .

Mum and Dad did a house clearance yesterday in Roath, Cardiff and amongst numerous other items they purchased was a box of badges and pins. Its not often you come across an authentic Deputy Sheriff's badge from Lake County, Indiana turining up in South Wales!

The provenance is attached.

Amongst the box was also a silver coin dated 1917 - any idea on the country?
