Last hour on my new field and despite 4x visits and 6+ hours detecting not one single coin.
Loads and loads of buttons but not even a modern coin ? Huh

Then just as it was getting dark I pulled up a tiny disc with no loop on the back but at only 7mm dia I assumed it was a tiny button.

Light wash at home and it was obvious that I had a small Celtic coin ......at last .!

What a way to end the year ...my first .
Happy New Year everyone

edit for future viewers the coin has been ID'd as a Barbarious Radiate not a celtic as I first thought

Excellent little find Peanut but can I ask why you think it's "obviously" a Celtic coin?

Sorry mate but that looks more like a 4th cent radiate to me, so it's more roman than celtic

My apoligies mate, but you got more chance of finding a sober Scotsman this morning than that being "Celtic"  Tongue

thank you everyone for your input. Doc and others have identified the coin as a barbarious radiate and I've found it listed on wikipedia. Once I had seen what it should look like it was easier to make out the head on one side of the coin.Especially after it had been cleaned and treated.

thanks Herbie.
I am chuffed to bits with the find on this field. I have made 5x searches so far and the radiate is the only coin find I've made so far. I was beginning to think the field had no promise but now I'm quite excited every time I get a couple of hours up there.

At over 300feet it is the highest field for several miles and has 360 degree views which include a Roman equestrian Fort (5xmiles distant) and 3x Roman villas along the Foss Way (2xmiles away). I'd be amazed if there was nothing here.

Sounds like a really good site with lots of potential, I felt the same with my land at first, nothing but junk and the odd Viccy penny, then all of a sudden everything just seemed to click and it's been very productive since, keep digging!! Smiley
