A few of the Mods and I met up today on a farm courtesy of Roman Ray & Ceri. I was late to arrive and the first to leave after about 2 hours due to the dreaded "Manflu" taing hold of my body.

First find of the day went to WBM in the shape of a Roman Fibula, he then promptly followed that with a George V Half Crown that seemed a bit light on the weight side - could be an unusual forgery - an interesting find all the same.

I wandered into another field and just in front of the sheep water trough up popped a few Gerogian buttons and a couple of coppers then this bronze little mans face! It immediately reminded me in size and design {especially the flat back} of one Casa Dos had which was a Roman Eagle heads mount. No idea if this is Roman, but there are definately similarities and about 30 metres away WBM had his fibula, so I am hoping it is.

The rest of the guys headed off into another field and before heading home I dug one last signal at a good 10 inches which turned out to be a clock face. Not sure it could even be a part of a sun dial as the numbers do not go all the way round as on a normal clock but only two thirds of the way.
Both items need a bit of TLC this afternoon - cleaned photos to follow.

No idea what else came up as I headed home spluttering all the way through Newport!

Any ideas on the face

Neil

Thats funny Rob - we said the same thing!

Shame you couldn't make it, although that said  I really shouldn't have gone. Paying for it now.

See you soon Rob

Enjoyable day lads! I still think that head of yours neil maybe a game piece simular to chess, be interesting to know if the romans played such a thing? Well done Paul on the clean sweep, I would deffinately ride your luck and get a lottery ticket. Heres a pic of my find, a medieval annular brooch, well pleased. I'm sure theres a lot more to find on this farm Smiley
