ID PLEASE
is this an apothecary weight ?
it's 15mm diam. It has OZ on the top a crown to the right over a V and a shield on the left
any idea of age

A nice little find, I guess it could have been used by a chemist but beeing and oz weight it would be a bit heavy for mixing medicines. I think that these are more likely to be for tea or tobacco both of which were valuable and sold by the oz. The V signifies Victoria Wink

Yes the name "trade weight" just means it has been officially calibrated and authorised for use by merchants. This one looks as if it carries the City of London Guildhall mark.

the shield may be makers mark?

little  more info i found out db4.............
Mid-Victorian trade weight with the City of London Guildhall verification mark (quartered shield with sword in top left quarter). Will date around 1850 to no later that 1878 as the numbering system came in that year.
