Nice one Alan fun is the prime word. The reason I do this hobby is one,  the fun day out in great scenery and two, never knowing what you will find and if you are going to change the known history of your chosen area and three meeting some dedicated, knowledgeable people who have infectious personalities which in turn give you a great buzz to want to go and do it all again.  Smiley

Bump..

Anybody got any idea's on the time period or what type of buckle this is in the post. I'm hoping to go back to the farm with some kind of
information, as like myself, the farmer is very interested in the history of his land.

Cheers

Sorry Mike. I spent a while looking last night for a file I'd saved. Gawd knows where I saved it to but I can't find it. I'll have another look now.

As I said before Mike it doesn't even look like a buckle too me, more like a furniture escutcheon. It looks quite thin and the colour looks as if it could be brass also the decoration look more impressed than engraved or cast so whatever it is I would say no older than 250 years.

Hi Mike. I have my doubts about the buckle idea. But I have found the site I was looking for. For Future reference have a look at C J's Metal Detecting Pages. Buckles through the ages is a good section.
