An eventfull day was instore for IanJohn12, Roman Ray and myself as we headed for the Monmouthshire Hills once again in the Statermobile. We've been going to Monmouth to different farms each week for a few months now and we're thinkin of changing the County name to Coburnshire after our site finder wizzard.
Actually we almost didnt go as Ray rang me at 6.30 suggesting we should call it off as it was emptying down, a quick look on Weather.com showed it was to be a fine day so off we went.
Before we even dug a hole, while walking up to the first field we were joined by two police officers who were following up a call from a nearby house. A neighbor had reported us thinking we were up to no good. The officers were both good as gold and friendly. I thought at first they had caught up with Ian again for worrying sheep!
Only kiddin !
We went on to have a good few hours with Ray getting a sixpence and spindle whorl, Ian having a rose farthing and I had what looks like a small medieval token and a lifebuoy medal.
The best was yet to come, for as we were making our way down the road back to the van a landrover discovery stopped and asked us how we did. He then asked us if we would mind coming up to his farm to look for a gold eternity ring which his wife threw out in a rage the week before.
Up for a challenge we agreed.
The previous day another detectorist tried without any joy, and after around half hour I started to think we would also fail. It was a large lawn we were searching and even though we knew the ring would be on the surface the temptation for Ray to dig holes when he got a good signal was too much.
The light was now starting to fail so a different line of attack was called for. I put my detector to one side and headed to a raised bed, with probe in hand I prodded around the bushes (innuendo there somewhere)
. Then BINGO there it was a stunning White Gold possibly Platinum Ring with 7 Diamonds.
Well pleased to say the least. A gr8 feeling finding it and handing it back, seeing the relief on his face. I have a feeling it was worth a fair bit. He wanted to give us something but we asked him if he could get us some more farms we would be happy. So hopefully now we will be heading up to Monmouth a few more times to come.
Happi Dayz!
