Thanks Jon that's a great bot of info (wish you'd said 1712 though lol) the field is only 5 acres and this will be the third treasure case from it.

LOL. Sorry Geoff, I actually forgot about the 300 year rule. I'm certain it will get back to you regardless of date and if Treasure or not! Just hope it goes through the system quickly for you! 3 treasure finds in one field, amazing, funny how one field has them all in one!!

That's depressing news, that means I got to wait at least another 6 months for my Axe Heads.

Thanks Steve, the States does seem the place where they fetch the money, though I think that price is somewhat tongue in cheek.
Unfortunately this one is low grade gold and a bit squashed which won't help.

Looks like you've got a winner there Geoff. Grin
Hope you don't mind me butting in on your post but looking at Steves' link I noticed a ring (the only one I've seen so far) very similar to the one I found.
Top right hand corner of Home Page, the one thats like a 3d piece. Only difference is mine hasn't got a stone or a bit attached to it for a stone.
Any idea what sort of age that one might be.Huh

Val

Thanks Geoff. Smiley

Not to sure what yours looks like but here are a few Octagonal rings;

NLM-A22FA3" style="float:right;<acronym title="The Portable Antiquities Scheme">PAS</acronym> record number: NLM-A22FA3

Object type: Finger ring

Broadperiod: Roman

WILT-BC8C71" style="float:right;<acronym title="The Portable Antiquities Scheme">PAS</acronym> record number: WILT-BC8C71

Object type: Finger ring

Broadperiod: Roman

County of discovery: Wiltshire

NARC-EC8B41" style="float:right;NARC-EC8B41" style="float:right;<acronym title="The Portable Antiquities Scheme">PAS</acronym> record number: NARC-EC8B41

Object type: Finger ring

Broadperiod: Modern

County of discovery: Northamptonshire

IOW-6A52C5" style="float:right;<acronym title="The Portable Antiquities Scheme">PAS</acronym> record number: IOW-6A52C5

Object type: Finger ring

Broadperiod: Roman

County of discovery: Isle Of Wight

HAMP-D47894" style="float:right;<acronym title="The Portable Antiquities Scheme">PAS</acronym> record number: HAMP-D47894

Object type: Finger ring

And there are a lot more, apart from one modern they are all Roman. The patina should give the game away Val, any chance of popping it up again?

PS. a belated "nice find" Wink

There you go Geoff.  Not a bad pici but not brilliant.

On closer inspection I can see one main difference.  All the rings you picked out have 8 facets. Mine has 12. I also have to admit to a 'certain amount' of cleaning. It never occurred to me that it might be of any great age and it was dark brown to black when I found it in a copse of very old Oaks with very wet to boggy ground.

What do you think ??  Should I start swooning. Grin
