Two Gower Beaches in April 2009

Haven't been on a Gower beach detecting for quite some time and I was amazed by the amount of sand loss especially on Port Eynon Beach where the children were digging in the peat and clay. I've done a little video, I hope it works

thats amazing bob i havent been to port eynon for years its a shame it seams a lot of our beaches are under threat due to the activity of the dredgers.amazed it is still going on giving its results to our beaches. nice vidio mate.

Have read other articles of people saying about sand disappearing from beaches. Is this totally down to dredging or is the weather and other things a factor.

Llangennith was Sat 4th and Port Eynon was this Sat 11th April 2009
Paul,
I think the main reason is dredging of the sandbanks around the coast. The sand
is eroded off the beach through natural causes too I guess but dredging cannot help.

I suppose knowing the government though absolutley nothing will be done about it until it is to late.

Me and my Father in law  Des have been detecting beachs for year.

Ive noticed the markable drop in sand levels on the beachs

Few months ago Me Des Bymatt and Gadgit went to sunny Porthcawl and on low tide there was just a few inchs before you reached the hard pack and shail

I have just been looking at the films of the sand loss on the Gower beaches and from a detecting point of view if this had been happening on a regular basis years ago I think I would have been living in a tent by the beach with my detector at the ready !!
On the rare occasion when it did happen you could be pretty sure of a coin and ring bonanza but you needed a deep seeking machine like a PI and be prepared to dig some very deep holes for that's where the goodies are , down deep.!!!
