hi eric, its "lead" should have added that anyway, and its plain on the reverse about 1&1/2 inces total lenght  thanks   mickycoin Grin Grin

Hi Mick It looks like a typical cloth seal, but you say it is 1 and 1/2 inches which would make it a giant in seal terms. Any chance you can actually measure the diameter of the seal in millimetres?

Yes, a cloth seal as Geoff said. It's from Augsburg, will usually have an 'A' on the other side. See here for one a bit similar:
