Bizarre! Even if it is a modern item, why the hell leave it in a field?

Think someone is having a laugh here.

Eric

Not buried to get a degree of patina / corrosion for selling on by any chance ?

Just resurrecting this dead topic, and to show there's one (or actually 10) born every minute, here's an almost identical horse on eBay, supposedly a detector find by the seller's dead grandfather. It's currently attracted 33 bids from 10 bidders, and is at £232 with a day to go:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-Celtic-Horse-Detector-Find-/261132010375

Seller is oksanab2005

Using a little detective work and the eye of faith, If you look at the buying history of the Bridgend Horse, the buyes has also bought Police memorabilia and animal obedience books.

I wonder if the police have been training dogs on that field and That was left there for the dogs to find ?

I suppose to be fair to the seller, this is what he says in the item description:

"We Are Currently Clearing Out My Grandfathers House, He Was A Keen Metal Detectorist.. He Has A Vast Collection Of Finds. My Mother Is Sure This Horse Was Found By Him Many Years Ago. We Cannot Guarantee This So Selling This Horse As An Unknown Item..It Is Beautifully Decorated, Looks Like Gold So Perhaps It Has Been gilted In Places... We Did Show It To A Local Detectorist. His Opinion Is That It Did Come Out Of The Ground As The Patina Is To Be Expected.. He Did Make Us An Offer But We Declined, We Will Gamble On Ebay"

It started at £4.14, with no reserve, so the rest of the bidding is just down to the clueless folk believing they can see something that might be worth thousands, unless there's some shill bidding going on.
