I was only thinking how strange this hobby is and how reliant we are on "lady luck", as this time last year I was knee deep in Roman coins and brooches, whereas this year, same village and just 3 fields away I have found 18 Hammies in the last 10 weeks and very little Roman.
So today I was hoping to add to my hammy total as these fields will be out of bounds within the next week or so, alas no hammies today.
But the Romans are back (a bit) in the form of a fibula that has, since being lost, lost the right arm Cry , which is a shame as otherwise it's in nice condition and a grot. Other than that a couple of buckles, a very solid modern(ish) thimble, a bent book fitting and what I think is the remains of a medieval sword chape. Still I'll be out again tomorrow, so who knows what will be next Wink

Just emptying my finds pockets and sorting out the junk, I had found a metal strip which had a coating similar to galvanised steel but the signal hadn't been right.
Anyway to cut a long story short, it's silver and quite a large thick piece too. No decoration but a hall mark. not 100% but I think it's 1893, W Spurrier & Co. So it was a better day than I thought Wink
