I normally won't touch Tesco with a barge pole because of their attitude toward motorcyclists at the petrol pumps. But, went in the other evening just to find a plastic jug to make a hand sand scoop for my wife for when she's working the beach, when I came upon this in the kitchen section.

£6:00 each for the containers (stainless steel) - £12-00 over 10+ years isn't so bad I suppose.

The rest are just bits I had hanging around my workshop
Old alloy brush handle
Few bits of metal bear
A few SS nuts and bolts.

Saves the £100 + their asking on e-bay

Mike

Nice work.

I've had home made foot assisted sand scoops before but they have always broken as they
get hammered on the beach.

I eventually got a stainless steel one professionally made that's never going to break.

I hope yours lasts and you have better luck than me!

Dimensions are 12cm by 16.5cm. Not that large but quite a sturdy SS container.

I do still have to enlarge the holes on the back and bottom slightly but that's just a few minutes work.
For the level of beach work I do, it should be OK for a while.

Maybe but a good scoop saves so much time and your back.
You do pay for what you get.
My old spade and garret pin pointer was a good combo but no match for my scoop.
Hunting at night is so easy with a scoop.
For just dry sanding and fun a home made is fine.
But if you want to maximise detecting time a good scoop is the way to go.
The more rubbish you can dig in the shortest time leads to luck.
I forked out 120 on a Stavr scoop and have not been disappointed.
With out it hunting in the water would be impossible.
Every one can hunt the sand but only a few hunt the water plus no one uses disposable bbq,s in the water lol
