Sorry if way off there but someone found one of those at the Penmark rally and said that it was the framework left after the musket ball were removed.

LOL Mike, so many people instantly say "oh its a casting sprue" but if you sit down and work out how many pieces the mould would have to have for all those legs jutting at different angles to be connected to a musket ball, well it makes a Rubik's cube look simple  Wink

Its what I was told it was as well Mike a couple of years back , but as Chef has said and Peter hinted at earlier in the thread, its not known what these artifacts were used for - Lots of theories but no sure identification.  Smiley
