I found a 1957 halfcrown in a red soil,it has a brown patina which won`t come off iv`e tried,vinegar and salt,and lemon juice in foil,none of it has worked,               any suggestions.

Hi Adrian, Not good news I'm afraid post 1946 "silver" coins are cupro-nickel (except maundy money) and the surface will stain red/brown in certain conditions, this staining is not on the coin but "in" the coin and the only way to remove it is to strip back the surface and even then they tend to be pink rather than silver.
