Peter found this today in an area that only roman and lead came up.  The back is flat and its around 1 1/4 Inches long. Bronze in material.

Hi Rob.
I see we're back to Ben Hur again. Something similar to this turned up some months ago  and we had a discussion about the Roman Chariot Races. The point being, styaliased Dolfins used as markers for each lap of the race.
This one seems to have been a pendant or bridle mount, but could be something along the same lines.

Well Romano Brit seems to think it could be a Dragonesque brooch from the late 1st century BC to early AD. It would work shape wise but the style of the Dolphin looks a little too good to me, though I think he's hit the nail on the head with the id.
It could be a Roman copy of the earlier style which are not uncommon and date from 75AD to 175AD, I can't track a reference down as yet or see how it would attach but I'm still looking.
