Geoff took photo's of my ring, denarius, mount, hammered trade token and ryall weight..........but here they are
as best I can take at the moment.

Handyman informs me it's a Trajan Denarius. The photo's don't do it justice and it's one of the best I've found.

WOW, so many good finds, what a great write up too! So sorry I couldn't get there! Sounds like everybody had a great time. I am going to put my theory on the Boar object, I think it could possibly be part of a Roman Bronze Vessel, that attached to the side or rim part, then a bronze loop would have gone through the snout and acted as a handle? The coin finds are amazing too, so many, everbody must have walked away with something by the looks of things. Hope to definitely make it next week!

What a great day - well done all. I was away detecting in Suffolk, but looks like I should have stayed at home.

Starting on the IDs - Geoff's George III is a third-guinea, not a quarter (sorry, being pedantic)

The find marked 'Roman belt slide' looks like a post-medieval belt mount to me.

Deadlock's cut quarter is Henry III voided long cross, London mint.

The coin marked 'hammered profile someones' is Edward III

Jeff from Canada's hammered looks like Edward I, Bristol mint

Spooner's hammered is Edward I, London mint, Class 7.

Willow tree's hammered is Edward I, Bristol mint - needs a clean to determine the class.

Hipster's Lizzy is a penny, not a three farthings.

jaydogg's multi-faced artefact - is there a channel right through to the fish's mouth? If so I wonder if it is a decorative pouring spout?

Another great writeup Neil. Thanks for the kind words.

It certainly was a classic DW rally. Well done everyone on your finds. I was wondering whether the low flying aircraft would affect our detectors but obviously not.

Here's a few pics of members' finds I took during the day.

As always a great write up Neil.

Just need to point out one tiny little error. The silver  riding crop top and book clasp was mine, not this "Mark" character. Lol  Wink

Really was a great day out though  Grin

i  think this rally should have been called the deep hole rally, most of you missed this event ,it started about 1 hour before the end, and lasted long into extra time ,with mike the f,[i think we all know what f stands for by now ].anyway this hole in the ground ended up ,up to mikes waist .after 1 hour of manic ,shoveling, lever baring, screw drivering."fetch me my best lump hammer" so i can sort this out.[4 detectors said yes] and everybody that was there joined in,even if they were there to just give encouragement [farmer steve] we were all thinking the same thing HOARD.
anyway it started raining,so we ended up soaking wet ,a concrete block with metal ingrained into it ,and a problem with the van,and no real finds to talk about,we love rallies
