Sorry for the delay in posting.
found on the 2 day DW rally, found on sunday.
She / it measures 8 cms tall by 2.5 cms at its widest  and weighs 48.1 g.
even though the pics don't really show it, it has 2 faces facing away from each other, 1 appears to be more monkey or ape like. both topped with the same conical ringed hat.
The hands?  in its middle appear to be held out as in prayer.
so over to you ....any ideas?

Now I don't want anyone descending on me with loads of abuse. This is only a suggestion and no insult intended.

It occurs to me that it is a depiction of the Pope wearing the 3 tiered Crown. Could it be a pilgrims memento. I believe little statues like this were blessed and sold to pilgrims after visits to Holy sites such as St.Davids.

Geoff. I spent (bore) the first 16 years of my life having Catholicism pushed down my throat. Check it out, I,m pretty sure it's a Pope.
Dating is difficult but the triple crown didn't come into use till 1342. So any time after that.

It was common practice for the Monks to sell 'blessed' mementos to the Pilgrims. A bit like sports fans buying No 1 football strips. All extra money in the coffers.

p.s. I'm sure You knew this already. Thought some of the others might be interested.

How many rings are around that hat? It's hard to tell from the photo.

Jon, it's hard to tell anyway. Do Google for 'Popes Crown'  and see some of the picis. It looks like multiple rings.

Firstly appologies for the less than brilliant pics, will try again later under natural light.
There 5 rings around hat finishing with a "bobble" (so 6 in total)
Val i'm certainly not dismissing your idea, with the hands that look as if they are praying it's a very credible suggestion. Though 1 of the faces deffinatley looks to me to be  "monkey like"...the again i've looked at it so much perhaps im seeing things.

Val you have the same education (training Grin) as my better half, but can I ask you why the hell do you lot feel so god damn guilty all the time Cheesy Huh
I can't see the monks selling religious keepsakes which depict the pontiff as a monkey though Grin (monks....monkey umm??)
But it could well date back to the Elizabethan age and is anti-papist. But it does look as if it was meant to do something? as in the hands being at the same level look as if they were held in a cradle and maybe it rocked?

Nobby has a good suggestion there. Just been looking at some picis of Hanuman and have to admit there are similarities.  I think we may have a hung Jury.

Geoff, why are we so guilty ?  When you were educated by Nuns as far back as I was everything was a SIN. Thought - Word - Deed. They didn't spare the rod to spoil the child in them days. My Head Mistress would have been sent to jail if her methods were used today. Huh Humility was beaten into you.
