Well after being made redundant last Sunday and suffering with a bad back for the previous week I finally got to detect last Friday on a new farm gained through a casual chat in the supermarket. Having previously been refused permission the farmer came up to me and said it was OK to go on his fields. I did not ask what changed his mind so took the chance to do a reccy and look at the lie of the land. 300 acres situated between a medieval planned town with a major castle site and a medieval village named in Doomsday and with a nice motte and bailey. This being the reason I asked in the first place and it is a five minute drive from home. After the usual chatting for half an hour and explaining about the detector I finally went in the paddock next to the house and within two minutes had found a William 3rd shilling. Seeing me digging the farmers wife came over and sort of claimed it so sorry no picture. The next half hour was spent chatting and finally got going when her mobile rang. during the next 45 minutes I picked up a couple of late bronzes of Viccy, George and Edward and quite a bit of lead as well as a handful of pottery with quite a bit of medieval pot. So when I was finally interupted again after about an hour I decided to call it a day and go back on market day when I know they won,t be there. Chuffed to death with the finds and promise of the fields and it is great to get out again doing the best hobby in the world. Hope to show you some more on Friday.

Some of the better pieces of Herefordshire pottery from the molehills. Well chuffed with this as you struggle to find this much pot in a ploughed field up here never mind just from molehills. looks promising.

Well after a washout last week my return to the local farm has given me four hours of interesting finds on a warm day with more great views. I actually had a walk around the farm before I started and found many interesting lumps and bumps and a lot of pottery again in nearly all the fields and some time spent researching the area has shown a lot of areas to head of to for some detecting on future trips. Anyway East Powys shows a lot of Promise and here are some more finds from the field.

And there is plenty of land that I know will produce some hammered and Possibly Bronze Age.
