Hi Peter

A nice Commemorative medallion found today. I think its of edward V11 and alexandra.

the reverse says commerating the royal visit...

but what royal visit and when?

can u help?

Alan I think it's more likely to be George V and Queen Mary as the female portrait looks like her and far too old for Alexandra. (Plus they are facing the wrong way) This is one of Edward and Alexandra it commemorates the visit too Wincanton races and it would appear that they would just knock them out for any visit, but without a date then I don't think you stand much chance of tracking down which one.

interesting to see 2 similar medallions - albeit 12 miles between the two.

I would think having two reasonably close would point to a local visit, My best advice would be to pop to your county records office where they will have the council records of all Royal visits.

Obviously there could of been many but the one that is mentioned a few times is a visit to Northampton by George V and Queen Mary on the 23rd September 1913, primarily to watch army manoeuvres.

thx for all your input into that geoff, i got bogged down in some interesting reading about their visit to the county.

however, i managed to locate my microscope and have taken a few images of the lettering ... i'm convinced it shows alexandra and edward .... but i'd still like your valuable opinion.

I think your transcribing the inscription as Queen Edward may be treasonable I'm not sure but if so could be punishable by a long weekend in Merthyr Grin

thx Geoff, i'm having difficulty in locating any info on a visit to the county as well. I'm just about to explore the possibility of their visit to east warwickshire, which may be a better bet.
