this thread was brought up before i think as a question but would anyone be interested in a section listing recommended books, or even books you wouldnt recommend for detectorists. Everyone knows Spinks is the "Bible" for coins, i am thinking more along the lines of  "chronicle of the Roman emperors", "pottery in Britain" etc.where detectorists both new and old could research their find and it's place in the historical picture.
I'm sure the Admin's could put a link in to Amazon or Greenlight publishing so that every book bought through this site would generate an income for detectingwales.com.
anyone think it's worth it?

As an avid book collector go for it. A damn fine idea.  Smiley Smiley

All these are good ideas but I am not sure whether they we would be allowed to advertise.

If it is free site then the owner may disagree with these suggestions as they would be relying on adverts for income. Just a thought.  Shocked

Say nought and you won't be controversial, or so they say?

What a cracking idea! I read a lot , 99.9% history of one kind or another. Welsh history in its self I find fascinating. It does also give the chance to collate different aspects when a new "dig" becomes available . I bet you will be surprised when all the little bits of information are gathered together , what we will find . I have been tracing my family history for a number of years and have been a member of a family history group which has shown me that somebodies incidental notes can mean something totally much more to an interested party . A definate " Go for it ! "

the village football team has a web site that offers links to the viewer to related sites, sports gear , music etc. if someone uses the links and then buys a product a fee is paid to the football club.
i just thought that we could do something similar, the links being to  detecting related items like Dealers, book sellers, magazine subscribers etc
thus generating revenue for the club helping with running costs.

I'm working on a books section now, Kev with links to Amazon. Hopefully it'll be up and running in a few days. Incidentally just to avoid confusion, we're a website not a club.

geoff , when i used the word "club" i was referring to the football club in the village who's website i was talking about. sorry for any confusion is may have caused.
didn't mean to imply this site is a "club".
