I thought you guys may be interested in this.

My father {73 years young} attends a Cardiff based carpentry club, and was approached by a Vicar to make some wooden doors for the local church. The Vicar was quoted 2k+ to make them, so my father said - "I can make them with my friends for cost" {which is about £300 - a huge difference!}

As a thank you the vicar offered my father an old oak church pew from his church which he was going to skip. Dad in turn offered it to me as he already has one in his hallway. We collected it on Monday and it weighed a ton - we really struggled to get it into my Landy and had to drive home to Dads house with the boot open to accommodate it. I gave the vicar a contribution to the church fund for it.

Its missing its Pew Number which the friendly Vicar is kindly going to find for me. On the plus side his church borders a couple of acres of pasture that they own and he's happy for me to do a scan of the area.

Anyway, Dad has spent the last 4 days restoring it and it looks fabulous now. My father-in-law helped me bring it around to my house tonight in his truck and both of us {he's 6'3 and built like Goliath} were struggling to carry it.

It dates to the origins of the church, which is 1860 and now lives in my Dining Room. Really pleased with it, although the wife is not too impressed and uttered her  frequent phrase of "What the Hell have you bought now?" thats bordering on blasphemy in my book!

Cheers
Neil
