Ive used my ace 250 in a few local fields and have found coins that have signalled silver, whats the best way to clean these coins without reuining their conditions further? Any tips will be very much aprreciated.

Also why does the ace not detect old 1 pence's and 1/2 pences? anyone know?

Hello Nick,I now just use a bit of soap/water and a toothbrush on the old or delicate stuff.I tried allsorts when I started and learnt by my mistakes!
On decimal coinage I now use denture tablets,a tip that another D/W member Sinky gave me  Wink Works a treat and makes them spendable again and it works quickly too.
Whatever you do don't be tempted with the brasso on the old coppers,it's too harsh and would devalue a good or perhaps rare coin.
Soaking in olive oil is another method,but it takes quite a while.
Don't know anything about the ace I'm afraid,but I'm sure someone will be along soon who does,all the best

Hi nick , i use ace 250 and my detector picks up the old penny and half penny so dont kno why yours dont.

Hi Nick I presume you mean new 1 and 2p's, that's because they have a steel core.

As Geoff says, newer steel core ones and twos will be rejected but half pences should not. Try the Ace over a few decimal coins as when I had one it would disc out 20p's and accept 10ps. Don't think these coins have changed much.

hi nick i fine to clean coins and almost anything is . empty a can of
 coke into a bowl drop the coins in and wait for 24 hours  then rince
under water .it brings them up realy nice

Hi,

You might want to be carefull what you put into the coke as it could be harsh. Should be ok for modern coins though.

Hi,

Small pot with a handful of salt, then add enough vinegar just to wet the salt, then place the coin in it for 1 min - take out and rub gently with fingers.

Brand new coin  Grin

Toothpaste is fine for silver coins, just a little on the coin and rub gently with fingers, no brush.
