I was on my way home from work today when i saw three detectorists in a field that i have been on myself in the past, the field in question is very quiet and i was interested to see if they had done any better than i had a few years back, they had not found much to talk about but we got talking and they have permission to detect on a farm that i have had permission for a few years, this farm has my best hammered field on it,  >:(so as you can imagine i was a little bit worried that they might have had some of my silver goodies, but when i mentioned this particular field i was surprised to hear that they haven't found any hammered coins on it  Huh.
So we carried on chatting and i happened to say that it is only a matter of time until this field throws up a hammered Gold coin, when one of them says that a member of their club found one a few months back, a quarter Angel in mint condition, I asked which field it came off and was gutted when they told me, it just happened to be a field which i used to take my oldest son to, but gave up on it as it is full of bullets.
The coin has been valued at £900

The Coin is on the Swansea club website under find of the month, i think it was June, whether it was found there we will never know but the people that told me seemed genuine enough.
I had a few hours on the field in question today and found plenty of the usual stuff but no hammereds, this is a bit strange as normaly there are loads of bullets and nothing else, but today i had a few coins and buttons and plenty of lead, but no bullets at all.
Maybe the farmer ploughed it deeper this year and turned the bullets down deeper and brought the coins closer to the surface.

I will give it another go this weekend.

Steve.

Steve,  i woke half way through the night, and this came to mind for some reason or other,
I was at the same farm and same field earlier this year, (late spring). he was waiting for the tractor to come to sow it, there was a bit of a prob with it. but it gave us a chance to have a little search of a couple of fields first.

The farmer told us then that the swansea club had been there and found some nice stuff, including a gold coin, he said it was a gold Angel .&
 some hammered too.
iv'e been meaning to get back this winter myself after the crops have been cut, haven't had a chance though yet,

 Best of Luck
       Alan,
