Melonhead and i went back to land that Farmer Phil got us two years ago and we have not been back there since Phil was with us there last august ,so it was strange going back there without Phil and its where we have had 10 hammies and a lot of milled off this land and also where Melonhead as had a gold coin as well, at the moment its stubble which is not the easiest to detect in places, the morning started with not a lot of signals the odd piece of lead and few buttons , then around 11-30am i had a iffy signal but dug it and outcame a tiny hammy and i mean tiny iv put it up against a 1 pence piece and i think is a Edward !! one for the Doc i think to id,I found it around where we have found hammies in the past so it shows you can miss stuff for sure, we had a break by 12 and chatted about the times when Phil was with us there and its one of Phil's favorite detecting spots and who well he had done there in the past, later in the afternoon i found this silver buckle ring with the initials PB and a letter M & ANCHOR & LION on it and Mark found this nice dragon badge . we enjoyed the day but strange to not have our good mate Phil with us there.

Nice finds Kev. The hammie is I believe an Edward II class 10-11 farthing of London.

Must have been a bittersweet day with the site full of memories of Phil.

Good result both, you may know already Kev but the ring is dated 1886 and was by Platnauer Brothers of St Paul's Square, Ludgate Hill, Birmingham.

Hi kev

Good to see you yesterday, and when i got back, i found that my colleague had emailed me with the information on the platnaeur brothers.

he wrote

"Don't know  for certain if it was, but i assume that one of them would have been my great grandfather. I've a cousin who's still involved with the jewellery trade. Family members were living in Brum at that time and there were also some platnauer brothers also involved in jewellery and watch repairing in Bristol at the same time. My grandfather was a watch repairer who smoked 100 roll-ups a day. The platnauer's came to this country from austria in the 1840's as a result of persecution of the jews".

hope that helps
