It was a great day out in my opinion with I think the running total at 6 hammereds when I left.

I didn't get there to gone 11 - so it was not the longest I have ever spent in a field. Apologies to Stan and Jaydogg - only got your messages when I got there. After last nights shenanigans at the (we've sold out of all beer by 5ish Beer Festival}I slept very late.

Really pleased with my finds including a 1916 sixpence and right at the end - well for me at 2.30! I found a hammered Edward Penny in the bottom of the spoil heap.

Pleased with the Geroge IV penny as well - thats my first to date from him. From the top of the spoil heap this time.

Bob did really well with his "fairy stick" and had some lovely early Scottish hammered coinage. I am sure he will add photos later.

Thanks to Paul and Dennis for arranging the farm and the organisers. Thoroughly enjoyed myself. Saw some great other finds - which I am sure will surface shortly on here.

Cheers
Neil

Cheers guys - saw a nice silver shooting badge as well.

Everyone seemed to have pockets full of Vicky pennies and seemed quite happy.

Good day out in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Apply to join Heather - they don't bite..

A great day out in good company. It was a building site but easy to dig and most had some finds of one sort or
another.

As usual my Fairy stick came up with the goods. Two Scottish hammered. A William 1st of Scotland and an Alexander 3rd of Scotland.

Peter has taken photo's and will do a more definitive ID later as he's as good at it as he is eating pies!  Grin

A group photo of some of my finds...

Some more photos of the day. Five hammered turned up in the end I believe, all medieval. Most people had a few coins and many had milled silver.

IDs on Bob's coins:

William I (the Lion) of Scotland, short cross and stars (Phase B) cut halfpenny, moneyers Hue and Walter, struck circa 1205 - 1230.

Halfpenny of John Baliol, struck 1292 - 1296. I thought this was Alexander III when I first saw it, but there is definitely an 'O' on the obverse side - the full legend on that side reads IOHANNES DEI GRA.

Brilliant, Pete, THANKS!!!

As a reward I will bring one of my wife's home made Corned Beef pasties to the next rally. They are hugely regarded by friends and family, as are her trifles. She makes the pasties especially for me to take to the Cardiff matches but as a special treat I will let you enjoy one as you are an expert on them.  Wink  Grin
