lovely seal mate

i found one similar last year, you can read about  it on
http://www.detectingwales.com/index.php?topic=10136.0

the doc identified it as

"It's circa 14th century, and a 'stock' seal rather than a personal seal. It reads PRIVE SV (Old French = Private).

A bird seems to be a typical motif on these, I'm not sure if it's known why. The design of this one is similar:

Nice medieval seal: have you tried making an impression with it yet? It's a pity it's missing the suspension part. My brother also found one very similar last year.

Very nice seal !! Yeah it was a buttonfest at the new farm yesterday, I got over 20 buttons in a day! Here are mine, plus a few more bits. I've never dug so many holes. in a day.

Lovely seal Jayhay - congratulations. You've probably already done this, but press him into some wax or bluetac so you can read the inscription clearly. You can buy red seal wax on ebay really cheaply.

Great find

Lovely seal, i don't think the half penny is George 1st,From the letters to the left it looks like GV (William) and the letters on the right RI (Maria) ? the bust looks like to heads as well so it could be a William and Mary half penny or farthing ?,not a 100% sure but it will be about 1694 if it is. Top marks Simon, do you know when I first looked at this post yesterday, I thought that it was a funny colour for a George and more like a William but didn't question it. I'm glad your on the ball.
