Quite interested to see the medal, I think it is a trade token.  The Number 3, I believe is the address of the stockbrokers. No.3 Bartholomew Lane. As that was his business address.

is this the Token ?

If it is here are the details:-

Description

TRADE TOKENS, Middlesex. John Ashby, stock broker . CU Token (35mm, 15.88 g, 6h). Struck 1824-1828. Man-headed bull left; below, JOHN ASHBY/ STOCK BROKER/ - No. 3 - BARTHOLOMEW LANE/ BANK / Man-headed bear right; below, calender and office hours.
From the Norman Frank Collection.

In addition to representing the bull and bear markets, the creatures on this token bear the faces of Nathan Mayer Rothschild and Moses Macatta, both powerful Jewish bankers in London at the time.
