I was in the woods today under shelter from the rain and found

1938 Penny
1916 Penny
1939 Penny
1959 Sixpence
1950 Two Shillings

And what I think may be a hammered token. I dont know a lot about these, perhaps somebody could shed some light on it.

Thanks

ZeD

Thanks for that. I did a quick search for Charles 1st coins and it looks like a Charles 1st Half Crown..

A great woodland hammy to find. The hole in the middle may mean its been hammered onto something. the romans used to do this with shrines in days gone passed. I've not heard of it as a late Medieval practice, but its possible.

Where theres one . . .

Good for ya going out detecting in the rain. Looks like a forgery to me, hence the hole put through it.

Well done on the hammered - I'm guessing it's your first. As has been said it's Charles I and very clipped - probably was a sixpence.

Could be fake, but hard to tell. If you can see copper inside the edges where the hole is, then it's probably a plated forgery.

Thanks for the replies and info. Could not see any copper on the inside edges,

It is my first one. It was my first day out with my new Fisher F4. It was a great few hours even when I dug up two old pennies from the same hole.

I have managed to pursuade a local farmer to let me detect on his land. Went there today and in the first hole I found an Edward VIII coronation medal. Unfortunatly it has been battered by a plough. Nothing else yet, but he has got a lot of land.
