An interesting item - never seen one before as a detector find. Looks like 1st Century AD spade currency, have a look at this site and scroll down the page to see some examples. Some of them are very rare, but it says that fakes exist of all the rare types. Has Edward Besly at the museum seen it?

Yes Edward is the top coin man in the National museum in Cardiff.
