There should be no surprise that the most valuable metals will be the one you find the least. Thats why theyre valuable. Scarcity.

hi i agree with rob the more scarce the metals are  the harder to find,  how many have found a platinum ring for example??  not many i bet .but when you do eventually  find a gold coin, hope its one in a pot full  good luck   mick Grin Grin Grin

I don't think it's the machine,as Rob say's it's more likely the scarcity,as for the platinum rings,i once read a post on another forum where someone claimed platinum gives similar readings to iron, not having ever found anything made of platinum i have'nt worked out if it's true yet  ? Roll Eyes

I think its stands to reason .....i was walking through Pontypridd early monday morning last week and if id stopped to pick up all the 1p and 2p coins that was on the floor id have been there till dinner time.
Funny enough there was no silver or chubbies,it must be people dont mind loosing the odd copper but not the big stuff.
like if id lost a gold ring on a beach say Id make sure i found it,i dont know if it try as hard to find it if it was a silver ring
Maybe that why i have found very little of either  lol

all the best

hi phil i have seen exactly the same as you are saying, plenty of coppers but no silver ones, as a 5p is smaller than a 1or 2p its more effort to pick it up but people will   "strange"    mick

Hi Mick

Even as a kid id never drop money and leave it there.

I never leave a coin on the floor if i come across one.
If its a penny i always say......
"Find a penny pick it up all day long you,ll have good luck...pass it on to a friend then your luck will never end "

Well it hasnt worked for me so far, just drives the wife insane lol

A woman told me once that when her husband was ploughing a field with the tractor he saw something glinting in the plough soil , got off the tractor and found several georgian gold coins , had a look with the detector but alas no more.
So I feel sure that when they were ploughing with horses spotting anything would have been much easier!
