Nice find, very unusual. It's definitely Ottoman (Turkish) and early 19th century. Do you have a size and weight for it Alan?

Thanks for that Alan. I believe it's a 9th issue 5 Kurush coin, also called a 5 piastres, also called a 200 paras, of Mahmud II (1808-39) of Turkey. The Arabic date on the coin translates to 1833. According to my reference, struck in very debased silver (0.17 fine). The weight should be between 13 and 16 grams.

Kurush? Kurush?....... Infidel Cheesy  It's Qirsh. I make the date 1828 and the coin was minted in Egypt. At 39mm it would be a 20 Qirsh.
And I haven't got a book lol
