when i first saw this my heart jumped a mile ! a silver buckle i thought, then at lunch time most people were saying " it's saxon " because two other saxon items had been found close to where i found it. but i think it's modern, it has a moulding mark on it and it's too light to be silver..but it made my day.maybe next time.... Wink....byron....ps...in the middle at the top is the remains of whatever it was attached by.

It's a Viking pendant. The Vikings raided Bredon in the 10th century. Nice find, worth about £2000 I would think. Tongue

I would say a scandinavian pendant as well. Possibly modern but we shall see Byron. Some stunning finds made at the week end well done all.

Here is a site to a few reproductions, you can see the similarity in the designs.

Have you got a reference for this type?  Just looks a bit pristine for something 1000 years old.

When you compare it against the other objects, you would have no doubt it was Viking.

I have seen very similar in Cirencester museum Peter which they dated as 11 th century. Not seen an online or written reference to this type though Peter.

It doesn't have what you would say was a classic Norse design and one other thing is it is displaying a classic Lyre i.e. Greek which are totally different to a Norse or Saxon Lyre.

I think that is representing water on the sides.

When it's found with one of these, there leaves little doubt.

Those Scandanavians were great collectors of metal work on their travels and would not suprise me to see a mixture of metalwork from different cultures.
