They could easly sailed up the severn in those days,and stayed there..
If you look at from the map bredon is on top of a cliff which over looks the severn.

I think it is a Spink number 843 series X  Wodan head Continental Sceatta dated 695ad - 740ad. Iam sure THE DOC will confirm or deny. Still astunning find Well done.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I was still on a high last night and I didnt get much sleep Smiley
 It was a very lucky find  I was using a Etrac with a 12 x 10 sef coil and heard the smallest blip, rechecked it and only got a good signal with a 1" hover over the target. It landed right in the hammy area and was about 3" to 4" down.
