Peter this is a closer pic of the "thing" I found today, it is the same size as a Charles I Halfcrown and his later Crowns. The other side has some letters remaining but too faint to photograph. I do seem to be having a run on counterfeit coins recently and am wondering if this is another?

I wonder if it might be a token of some sort. The legend around the edge looks a bit like that on a cartwheel penny, so possibly same era?
