With the spring weather I thought I would trot the detector out to the beach and see how it performs .I understand we are required,according to the Crown Estate site,to have a metal detecting permit for the beaches marked red on their map.However,the permit will not download,no matter which site I try to access it from.Has anybody else had the same problem?

YEH THEY EMAIL YOU A NO...... IF YOU ARE STOPPED YOU MUST QUOTE THIS NO..... TO THEM,THIS I BELIEAVE IS HOW IT WORKS.

 You should be able to apply and then print off your application from the Crown Estate site, I assume your ticking the box to accept their terms and conditions?

I wish I could get as far as applying,but the link on their site to apply for the permit always shows 'Page unavailable'.Have tried ringing Iain Mills on the number given,but he is on leave.Grrr.Typical Civil Service! Angry

Finally got through to a very helpful lady at the Crown Estates who confirmed there is a problem on their web pages and is posting me the form.If any-one else wants a permit telephone Claire Tallboys on 02078515266.

i was stoped and quizzed in tenby by a council official being escorted by a police officer
I had the permit my finds bag they said that i was the first one this week to have one i askes what happend to the ones they stoped with out one i was told they were warned and if found again the detector would be confiscated

Without checking it, I seem to remember that the standard fishing licence allows you to fish the fore shore, but only for certain fish.

So the answer is yes.

I believe that there is no permit / licence required for any sort of sea fishing including a tidal estuary
