Could be a pipe tamper, depending on the size.

Just found this on the web, so maybe a pipe tamper.

Its clear and obvious that its a Cornish pixies Tin Pick...Tut you lot disappoint me , especially you Peter H  .

Below is the only 'in context' Photograph I could find, though technically its being carried by an gnome, you will get some idea.

Picture the familly sitting around the medieval fire...

The medieval pot sitting on its squat copper alloy legs amongst the blazing embers. The metal handle that spans the diameter having once stood proud, now lays limply by its side having succumbed to gravity.

The food is cooked, the children are hungry and the babies are crying. The wife cries over "Pass me that cooking food hubby dear", or at least that's what you think she said.

You reach down and grab the handle and Yeeeeow! its hot. It's VERY hot!!! What you need is medieval handyman's patented pot handle lifter with double lifter arms and groovy handle.

Now where did you put it  Huh

ok - the consensus of the experts at todays rally, is that it is most certainly not a pipe tamper. however, what it is, is yet to be identified.

Having seen it in the flesh, I agree, but I don't know what it is either  Shocked

It looks a bit like a buckle tine, with ridges on the "T" and looks like mounting knops in the ends to fit in the hinge holes in the side wall of the buckle.

It would have been a long buckle though, probably for horse livery strapping?

Also the t piece looks like the top of a harness hanger like this
